Ladies Report for the 8th June 2017

Posted on 8th June, 2017

With the weather being a bit chilly last week, the ladies still left in the Club Pairs Championship took  to the green to battle with the wind and colder conditions. Wednesday 31st May saw the top 16 go through their skills and Thursday 1st June the quarter finals was played.   Results of this was Sue Davis and Laraine Mazurek defeating Jenny Northam and Pam Hoffmeier.   While Jenny and Pam held a lead during the first half of the game, Sue and Laraine managed a couple of multiple scores to forge ahead and never looked back from here, going onto the Semi Final. Di Stewart and Paula Body came out successful against Janet Campbell and Marion Salvia.   Helen Dean paired up with Claire Kelly against Gina Pain and June Wall.    This was a very close encounter, being 11 all going into the last end and Helen and Claire came out the victors here. Robyn Twemlow and Phyllis  Haywood did battle against Gail Gorman and Carolyn  Olliffe and once again this was a very close game and spectators witnessed Carolyn move the jack to the back of the green and this gave them victory. The semi final should see some closely contested games as the ladies go head to head in an endeavour to win a spot in the final.    Unfortunately the semi was due to be played yesterday, Wednesday 7th June, but wet weather intervened here and now the semi will be held after the AGM on Thursday 8th June.   Depending on who gets through to the final will decide when this will be played as Claire Kelly is entered in the Australian Open and will be away until 24th June.    Should she and Helen Dean not win their semi today then the final will be played Friday 16th June. Ladies Report for the 20th May 2017

Posted on 22nd May, 2017

Ladies Major Singles Final was held and won by Claire Kelly who defeated Laraine Mazurek 25 – 14.    Quite a few of our ladies witnessed the game and both finalists put down some great bowls much to the delight of the spectators. Claire Kelly transferred to our Club recently from Taren Point and over the past couple of years played at our club as a Visitor.  The game was very tight during the early stages of the match, but then Claire got her rhythm going and was unbeatable over the latter part of the game.    Congratulations to both ladies for advancing to the final and to Claire for winning her first Major Singles at her new Club.      President Denise Thompson presented the trophy to Claire at the conclusion of the game. The District Triples was then held the following week and Forster Ladies were well represented in this event, some getting through to the quarter finals and in the Semi final our team from Forster consisting of Julie Scott, Robyn Condello and Claire Kelly as skip won through and then came away as winners in the final.   They defeated some hard teams throughout, one of the best was the team skipped by Sarah Boddington, with her Mother Di as lead and Joan Thomas third.    Congratulations to our Forster team who will now advance to the regional finals later in the year. On Monday 15th May our No. 2 Grade Pennant team commenced their quest to win their way through to the State Finals of the Pennant.    They came up against the local team at South West Rocks and although our girls put up an amazing fight, the locals were too good for them on the day.    Our ladies will bring back some great memories from the event and valuable experience from playing in such a prestige event.   I drove a car load of members up to cheer for our girls and we were pleased to see our girls fight all the way to the end.  Congratulations ladies for such a find effort.  Ladies in this team were Di Scroope, Gail Robinson, Paula Body and skip Judy Mangan, with Joan Whiteside, Jenny Northam, Marion Salvia and skip Robyn Condello.    Joan Whiteside was unable to travel to South West Rocks as her husband has had serious medical problems, so Gail Gorman became the player to take Joan’s place and she did an admirable job, thanks so much Gail for playing in the lead position. The Pairs Championship has now commenced and winners in the first round  were Sue Davis/LaraineMazurek, Carole Wright/Claire Fletcher, Allis Wilkinson/Lyn Edgtton,  Jenny Northam/Pam Hofmeier, Ann Davis/Shirley Palmer, Gina Pain/June Wall, Gail Gorman and Carolyn Olliffe.   Next round will be played after the State Carnival on 31st May and we wish all good luck in their next...
